Grape varieties for wines

 

Xarel·lo

This is one of the native and the most emblematic variety of the Penedes area. The grape is known to give us  balanced, silky with aromatic fresh fruity hints wines, which usually reminds us white fruits and capable to surprise us with certain touches of tropical fruits.

The vineyard of 'Can Llerda' was planted in 1956; its soil is deep, fresh with clay loam texture. Traditional growing system; south exposed and east orientated.

 

Viognier

This variety of unknown origin has been able to adapt itself very well in the highest vineyard of  'Can Romeu'; 600 m. height. This vineyard is known because of its scented and fruity wines with white, stone and tropical aromas.

The soil of  'Can Romeu' vineyard is deep, stony and at the same time fresh. It was planted in 2007 and the growing system used is on trellis; its exposure and orientation is north/west.

Viognier 

Cabernet Sauvignon

We can find in Can Vidal land one of the first Cabernets planted in the Penedes area, near 30 years ago. This land, year after year produces great quality grapes which are used to elaborate rosé and red wine. The red fruits aromas stand out in these wines and give great complexity to them

The vineyard was planted in 1981; the growing system used is on trellis and its exposure and orientation is east/west; clayey with presence of elements of slate soil.

 

Garnatxa

 ‘Cal Felip’ is one of the most emblematic smallholdings in the Penedes area because is on the slope of ‘Cal Felip’ hill with beautiful views of the Montserrat’s mountains.

This vineyard was planted in 1982; its ground is not too fertile, with gravel, sandy loam texture and goes on the level shapes. With a north exposure, a west orientation and the traditional growing system, let us elaborate wines of great fineness and complexity with the grapes given.

 

Cariñena

Among other vineyards of ‘Mas Moió’, we have the Cariñena one. This 40 years old vineyard, the stocks are planted in narrow rows; this is the same way as lots of years ago when the land was worked with animals and was not necessary to have wide rows. But as the times are changing, we have adapted the field to the new needs.

It was planted in 1968, the soil is not too fertile and with clay loam texture on a calcareous bed, east exposed, west orientated and traditional growing system we obtain a great quality grapes.
